established in 2018!
In 2011, when my mom bought an old farmhouse in the hills 30 minutes away from our home in Verona, our whole family thought she was bananas. While the house was technically livable, this beautiful villa was nothing like the photos you see today. The ceilings were low and damp, the road up was only reachable with a tractor, and the room that is now our kitchen was a fully functioning pigeon loft. The yard was populated by three horses, a flock of geese, and approximately 1 million cats.
Despite it all, my mom had a strong belief in her vision for this house. Where we all saw a pile of dilapidation, she was drawn in by the all day sun, its setting on a hill overlooking the vineyards, and her stubborn premonition that there was the possibility to make something beautiful here. It was this faith that carried her strongly through seven years of grueling renovations.
The house that now stands is a labor of love, pulled together not only through the efforts of architects and carpenters, but more meaningfully through the help of our friends and family. In the photo above, taken during our final push of renovations in Spring 2018, Germano, Machi, and Evan embrace my mom in a hug before making the pile of wood they're sitting on into our pool deck. Over the years, we've hosted a soccer team’s worth of loved ones willing to lend a hand, from thankless jobs like shelf installation to more rewarding projects like the four bed platform on the second floor. Our current project, a dry sauna on the southwest side of the terrace, is designed and overseen by my dear friend Tim from Alaska and built by the hands of my uncle, brother, and a few lucky friends who we've discovered can swing a hammer (set to be finished by Winter 2026/27).
And now, here we are with a beautiful guesthouse in the Veronese hills. We look forward to welcoming the finishing touch to my mother's vision all those years ago: you!
Con affetto,
Giuliana, Sophie, and Jacopo
